Transforming and Providing Comprehensive Support in Education for African Kids
Challenges Faced by African Kids in Education
- High Child Labor Rates: Over 20% of African children aged 6 to 17 are engaged in child labor, hindering their education and development.
- Abject Poverty: Extreme poverty prevents many families from affording school fees, leading to numerous children being unable to attend school.
- Inadequate Funding: Grassroots education systems lack sufficient funding, resulting in poor infrastructure, untrained staff, and insufficient educational resources.
- High Numbers of Out-of-School Children: More than 42 million African children are not in school, with 60% unable to attend elementary school due to financial constraints.
Our Mission to Transform Education for African Kids

We are particularly committed to nurturing the intellectual and creative talents of each child.
- Creating a Conducive Learning Environment: We strive to enhance infrastructure, provide essential learning materials, and ensure access to qualified educators to create a supportive and effective learning environment. Our goal is to create spaces where children can thrive and excel.

- Fostering Sustainable Change: Our mission is to create lasting improvements in the education system, empowering children to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their full potential. By equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, we aim to prepare them for success in the 21st century.

What We Do
At African Kids Education Matters (AKEM), we identify talented and gifted children in underprivileged African communities who lack access to quality education. Our mission is to provide these children with the support they need to reach their full potential. We believe that early identification and the right education, coupled with training in 21st-century skills, can prepare these gifted children to make a global impact and play a crucial role in reducing poverty and illiteracy in Africa.
How We Do It
- Collaborating with Schools: We partner with schools in rural and suburban areas of selected communities to identify gifted children. Our approach ensures that no talent goes unnoticed.
- Educational Funding: We finance the construction and improvement of school infrastructure to create a conducive learning environment. This includes building classrooms, libraries, and laboratories.
- Scholarships: We offer scholarships to gifted children, covering their education up to the university level. This ensures that financial barriers do not hinder their academic progress.
- Educational Materials: We provide essential instructional materials and study aids to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness. This includes textbooks, computers, projectors, and other learning resources.
- STEM and Skills Training: We prioritize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, music, and entrepreneurship training. Recognizing that STEM careers are key to solving economic challenges in Africa, we focus particularly on empowering girls in STEM to promote gender equality. Additionally, we support children with talents in music and entrepreneurship, catering to their diverse interests and abilities.
Special Focus on Girls in STEM
Empowering Women through Education
At AKEM, we place special emphasis on encouraging and supporting girls to pursue education and careers in STEM fields. We believe that empowering women through STEM education is crucial for promoting gender equality and driving socio-economic development in Africa. Our initiatives include mentorship programs, STEM workshops, and providing resources specifically tailored to encourage girls' participation in STEM.
By addressing these challenges and implementing our comprehensive support programs, AKEM is committed to transforming education for African children, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Through our efforts, we aim to foster a brighter future for Africa's youth, empowering them to become key players in reducing poverty and illiteracy across the continent.
